Natalie Lawler

Natalie is a visual artist and heritage science researcher from Southern California. Based in painting and creative book arts, her practice pursues a multifaceted understanding of color, chromatic language, and artists’ pigments. After first learning color theory as an art student, she wondered why the vibrant Guatemalan textiles she’d grown up with didn’t fit any category of color harmony – they were unharnessed, equally jarring and warming to the eye. Linking visual art, storytelling, and the scientific study of painting materials, Natalie’s work illuminates vibrating, prismatic color worlds, from micro- to macroscopic.
