John Haber

John Haber (b. 1954) is an arts writer and textbook editor in New York, with a background in hard science. That mix makes an interest in an artist’s book only natural. He began 25 years ago, and it has grown to thousands of reviews, from blog posts to in-depth articles and from art history to contemporary art. I try to place a critic’s judgment within a context of description and interpretation, to make art of all kinds more accessible, provocative, and interesting. A clash of ideas can be not a stumbling block but a guide, and it can tell a good story, too. How, say, have the pandemic and a massive shutdown affected a growing diversity in art and its very ability to survive, and what makes older art still new?
