Benjamin Aleshire

Bio

Benjamin Aleshire grew up in rural, working-class Vermont.

A first-generation college student, he earned a B.A. in Romance Languages from the University of New Orleans in 2020.

His poems have appeared in The Times of London, Iowa Review, Boston Review, El Mundo, London Magazine, the Poetry Foundation’s Harriet Blog, and on television in the US, China, and Spain. An excerpt from his novel, POET FOR HIRE, was featured at Literary Hub.

For many years he made his living by composing poems for strangers on a manual typewriter in the streets of New Orleans, Paris, Havana, Barcelona, New York, San Francisco, and London.

Ben has received a James Merrill fellowship from the Vermont Studio Center, a Bread Loaf waiter-scholarship, a Goldwater fellowship from NYU, and a Creation Grant from the Vermont Arts Council.

He serves as a contributing editor for Green Mountains Review and reviews books for Seven Days.
